book review: Fitness Confidential by Vinnie Tortorich

Fitness Confidential by Vinnie Tortorich ... awesome no BS attitude about how to get in shape! Definitely not like the other books out there.

A coworker recommended this book to me and I was immediately intrigued just by the title. I looked it up, clicked “add to my wish list” on Amazon, and forgot about it for a few months. A few weeks ago, I rediscovered it on my list and purchased the Kindle version. (did you know you can read books using the Kindle Cloud reader app on your iPad, iPhone, or computer? You don’t need a Kindle and Amazon is way cheaper than iTunes!)

Fitness Confidential is a great book for someone who’s looking to get fit, but has no idea what they’re doing. Actually, it’s also great for people who do know what their doing but need some more motivation. Vinnie’s no bullshit attitude is a breath of fresh air compared to the other fitness and diet books out there. He tells it like it is. But he’s extremely helpful in giving tips on how to start working out, how to choose a gym, and how to find a good trainer if you so desire. He doesn’t really talk about nutrition too much, except for a few really good simple tips. Which is basically all you need.

He’s a trainer based in LA for a very long time, so he’s seen it all, as he will tell you in some of his anecdotes. The only thing I wish he covered more of is the mental side of it. He does explain that fitness is mostly mental, but doesn’t really delve into how you can change your way of thinking. He seems to be the type of person that is just wired that way. (who else would sign up for a 508 mile bike ride?)

I don’t want to give away anything else, so that’s all I’ll say. Click here and check out the first few pages on Amazon if you’re not fully convinced 😉
